In the Middle of the Desert
(From the book Rocker Baby Animal followed by Ana Mata)
I dreamt with Latin American Poetry An invisible huge and heavy hand was reuniting it all one
afternoon in the desert Poetry took the shape of a yellow dog in the middle of nowhere afar very afar
an oasis mountains the sea Under the sun's sores the solitary dog walked slow and its legs sank in the
sand but the monstrous or hallucinant animal wouldn't fall wouldn't stop moving one sand storm
100 kilometers per hour passed over the dog making it disappear and I swear my heart was not beating
A metallic bird flying across the sky without any problem The storm moves South and the dog appears
intact with its eyes half-closed his skin yellow like the desert on that hellish afternoon and it moves
But where is it going? One never knows where poetry goes not even in the land of dreams Maybe the
monstrous dog will go and pee in the ocean then might start getting in and won't do anything else or
will swim towards the bottom to reunite with the aquatic dogs of forgetfulness or not The truth is the
animal moves on I like to look at it and touch its shiny fur its bloody snout Then it throws a bite
extending all over the desert and goes around it a hundred times and bites itself Poetry also tries to bite
itself and with its sharp fangs pull out the little skin left and go on no matter
where not knowing where but go on
The following excerpt is part of the LP of poems:
"Song to my Tree in the Fire (UA-EA EE-A)"
* Thunder made the Earth tremble and with it I would fall then it would look at me like at 7 years of age playing in a swing I thought the higher I got the closer I would be to returning to the maternal womb to the sky and its letters I imagined clouds were letters used by God to write his book and surely he was crazy because he kept erasing them or turning them into other letters other verses an unending book and god created himself in my womb gave me this ABC to pull it out from my entrails and mark each letter with fire in my hands and make this poem * The city is eating up all the hearts I keep mine inside a red balloon it floats above the world looking for another place where it might keep throbbing light The sky throws rocks at me and I dance all night The hand of some god unties the laces of the world's boots trips and falls out of orbit but I don't fall I don't die I am a sick child creating a multidimensional poem it ties me to other sick children running blue in another spacetime I know it is possible to make the heart travel to offer it to any party to imagine it in the hands of a castaway who just finished his raft and the raft
includes a poem It is my heart/captain who builds and travels without stopping without dying or traveling I travel in a paper boat inside the world they say I am not a boy to think this way while they point with their hunting rifle and tell me to wish my last wish Bastards! If I could ask for anything before I die it would be not to die I still feel joy to listen to my heart lulling me at night They saw the countdown bomb my mind was and told me to write a poem with certain amount of syllables to read under the flag The poems I make will give no importance to the number of syllables if counting is measuring the heart's pulse and my heart runs free over the rocks thrown by the sky
