The Switch
And the day switches over
morning light
while I walk
on velvet streets,
-nightmares,
watching how evening fire
dies out
in my people's soul.
My shadow is blurring,
I'm losing myself too.
Interrruptor
Y el día cambia la frecuencia
de luz matutina
mientras camino
en calles de terciopelo,
-pesadillas,
miro cómo el fuego de la tarde
muere
en el alma de mi pueblo.
Mi sombra se torna borrosa,
me estoy perdiendo también.

City's Fragile Beauty
A running bicycle
to the first day of class.
The sun reflects
on the school bag
and I can distinguish
some mangoes
for break time.
Also
the black sand is excited,
it moves softly
in the breeze
from Casuarina Beach.
On the way to Hartley College
a military line
turns every happiness off.
This is my place
too,
this is Jaffna.
La frágil belleza de la ciudad
Corriendo una bicicleta
al primer día de clase.
El sol se refleja
en la mochila
y puedo distinguir
algunos mangos
para el recreo.
También
está entusiasmada la arena negra,
se mueve con suavidad
en la brisa
de Casuarina Beach.
En el camino al Colegio Hartley
una línea militar
apaga toda la felicidad.
Este es mi lugar
también,
esto es Jaffna.

Minutes of Catastrophe
I have a Devil's smile
on my left hand
with some burning kisses
and hugs that calm.
The watch on my right arm
shows images
of the catastrophe
shooting the atmosphere.
I'm carrying joy
through the dark.
Red spirals guide me
into that room of war.
I've got a devil's hair cut,
he keeps my ideas in spray.
My hair on the floor
fixes a heart
that might not understand
the monsoon's sound.
The suicide has ended.
Minutos de catástrofe
Tengo la sonrisa del diablo
en mi mano izquierda
con algunos besos inflamables
y abrazos que calman.
El reloj en mi brazo derecho
muestra las imágenes
de la catástrofe
disparando a la atmósfera.
Llevo alegría
a través de la oscuridad.
Me guían espirales rojos
a ese cuarto de guerra.
Tengo el corte de cabello de Satán,
él guarda mis ideas en aerosol.
Mi cabello en el suelo
repara un corazón
que quizás no entienda
el monzón de sonido.
El suicidio ha terminado.
